When you think about it, people don’t really expect an awful lot from air travel. Unless you’re travelling in First or Business Class, you are pretty much resigned to the fact that you’ll be sitting in an uncomfortable seat for hours on end, breathing recycled air and staring at the back of the seat in front of you, which will undoubtedly be reclined to within a couple of centimetres of your face. All you ask is that you get some decent movies to watch, and for the stewardess to make you feel special by slipping you an extra bag of peanuts with your drink.
This shouldn’t be too much to ask, but some airlines still manage to get it horribly, horribly wrong. Unlike Korean Air, Air France, Icelandair, and Air New Zealand, which are on the list of the most loved airlines in the world, there are some that manage to provide such terrible service that they top a list of their own; the ‘most hated airlines’ list.
So, if you’re going to be your own travel agent next time you go away, and book your tickets yourself, here are some airlines to stay away from.
The Most Hated Airlines in the World
This airline calls itself the leading airline of the Philippines. Little does it know that it’s not leading any list – not even the list of most hated airlines. In any case, Cebu Pacific scored a -0.057 on a scoring metric that no one understands. All we know is that this makes it pretty despised by passengers.
The first US carrier to make this list is Delta Airlines, but it won’t be the last. If the airline takes anything away from its fourth spot on the list, it’s that it’s not the most hated American airline in the world, with a score of -0.068.
Another loathed American airline is American Airlines. We’ll never know exactly what this airline did to offend its passengers, but they’re angry. AA scored a dire -0.097 on the nobody-understands-how-to-read-this scale.
Based in Denver, Colorado and with a name like Frontier Airlines, passengers must have known what they were getting into. Except, they didn’t. We’re sure passengers didn’t have to forage for food and survive frigid weather just to say they flew Frontier, but that didn’t stop them from destroying this airline’s reputation with a lowly score of -0.103.
And the bad day for US airlines just got worse, with Spirit Airlines – the Florida-based airline – taking the prize for both the most hated US airline and the most hated airline in the world. This low-cost airline once tried to show the world that all you need to succeed is a vision and some plucky spirit. Looks like you need good service too, chaps. Sorry.
